Chris Herren, a former professional basketball player who struggled with substance abuse throughout his basketball career, is coming to Milford on September 11th at 6:00 p.m. to share his personal struggles and encourage teens and people of all ages to make good choices and stand up to drugs and alcohol. “We are very excited about the opportunity to bring Chris Herren to speak at the Boys & Girls Club of Souhegan Valley’s Amato Center for the Performing Arts,” stated Susan Taylor, Executive Director. “Some of our members heard Mr. Herren speak at a leadership conference last year and were extremely impacted by his message. Because of their passion about what they experienced, we began fundraising to bring him here to Milford.” In his inspiring presentations, Chris Herren draws on his own history to convince audiences that it is never too late to follow your dreams and urges audience members to overcome their setbacks and start making the right choices.

Supported by the Milford Hospital Association, Bellavance Beverage  Company, and the Milford Police Department, the event is co-hosted by CAST (Community Action for Safe Teens), a committee of the Boys & Girls Club of Souhegan Valley. “We are thankful for the community’s support of our efforts to bring Chris Herren to Milford. It’s an important event, one that we feel can change young people’s lives,” stated Caitlin Hunter, Dir. of Operations and facilitator for this outreach event for the Boys & Girls Club.

Members of the community can still support the event by mailing donations to BGCSV, PO Box 916, Milford NH 03055 (write Chris Herren in the memo). Or donate online at www.svbgc.org.
