As part of the
Boys & Girls Club of Souhegan Valley’s good character and citizenship
initiative, the cast of almost 150 youth from January’s Boys & Girls Club
production of 101 Dalmatians recently made donations of food and various pet
necessities to the Bedford Animal Rescue League. The project, dubbed “Donations from
Dalmatians” was one of many service projects performed by the Riverbend Youth
Company, the club’s youth theater program over the past year.
Youth from the
communities of Amherst, Brookline, Hollis, Merrimack, Milford, Mont Vernon,
Nashua, Wilton, and Pepperell, MA, collected bedding, towels, cardboard trays,
and toys for the donation. They also put
together 101 fleece braided toys for cats and dogs at the Animal Rescue League.
“We want our
cast members to understand the importance of values and giving back. We are privileged to have such great support
from the community and involving the kids in these projects strengthens that
connection between our theater and our community,” said Robin LaCroix, the
Club’s Director of Theater Arts.
Robin pointed
out that each Boys & Girls Club theater arts production incorporates a service
project emphasizing the club’s values. Individual cast members are also
acknowledged in the production’s program booklet for exemplifying those values.
Susan Taylor,
the Executive Director at the Boys & Girls Club of Souhegan Valley commended
the cleverly themed project.
“As a youth
organization working to fulfill its mission through the theater arts, we rely
on projects like these to demonstrate the importance of good character and
citizenship,” said Taylor. “It was a great
way to reinforce the values of our organization, and the kids really enjoyed
helping out the animals.”
